I’ve made Apple Pie Moonshine for the past 5 years to pass out to friends and family as holiday gifts. Now I know what you might be thinking “Hey Devin, isn’t it illegal to make moonshine?”, and yes, yes it is. This however, isn’t technically moonshine. I consider it more of a mixed drink that you can sip on, take shots of or add to other drink recipes (works great as an apple brandy substitute). The name “Apple Pie Moonshine” is what it was called by an old college roommate and its stuck with it since.
A standard batch for this recipe will fill around 16 8oz mason jars and maybe a little left over to “taste test”.
The recipe and ingredients list are very simple and can be modified depending on your preference of strength.
1 – 750ml bottle of Everclear (I bought 151 proof because that all you can buy in CA)
5 – 12oz containers of frozen Apple Juice concentrate
12 oz water (or more if desired)
1 1/2 cups of Brown AND White Sugar
12-16 Cinnamon Sticks
1-2 Apples *optional*
In a large pot on the stove add in the Apple Juice Concentrate, Sugars, Water and Cinnamon Sticks. Bring pot to a boil and remove from heat and let cool. *Optional* Once cool enough cover pot and put it in the refrigerator to completely cool (I normally let it chill overnight). Place Everclear in the fridge or freezer at this point as well.
After letting the pot set and completely cool add in the Everclear and stir. Sanitize the mason jars and evenly distribute the drink into each jar. *I normally put one cinnamon stick in each jar with a slice or two apple, not sure if it’s needed, but it looks nice.
