Happy Thanksgiving week! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays to test out new recipes. Many may find this strange because why would you want to make a recipe you might not like and then serve it to your family but, I find it the perfect time. When else do I have a panel of people to tell me exactly what they do and do not like about it? Nothing better than honest family dinners!

One of the best things about the holiday season is all the different desserts that my family and friends make. My weakness is anything salted caramel. The salty and sweet combination is heavenly. Katie and I looked online for an easy dessert to bake and we immediately saw the Salted Caramel Apple Pie Bars and knew we had to make them.

I decided to skip the oats in the original Sallys Baking Addiction recipe because Katie is allergic to oats. Her entire life she was told due to her Celiac Disease she was unable to consume wheat, rye, barley, oats and any other grains that the gluten protein is present in. About 5 years ago it was announced in the Celiac community that oats were possible gluten free. Since Katie has lived without oats her body didn’t adjust well to adding it into her diet; gluten free or not. Since we did not use oats our streusel topping turned out more of a sugar crust which actually worked very well!

Those that read DAM Good Food know Katie always adds a gluten free substitutions section if needed and you may notice something different this time around.
