So I’ve been waiting on this beer since November when a friend of mine shared a link about Rouge Brewing Company making a Sriracha Hot Stout Beer. For those of you that have never had a beer from the Rouge Brewing Company they are based out of Portland, OR where the cities motto is “Keep Portland Weird” and the brewery like to stick to its home roots. They have been partnered up with VooDoo Doughnuts and created some rather interesting beers based off of the doughnuts sold at their shops. VooDoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale, Chocolate, Peanut Butter & Banana Ale, Lemon Chiffon Crueller Ale, Pretzel, Raspberry and Chocolate Ale (my favorite). This time they seemed to venture out of Portland and down to California for their new Sriracha.
I finally found this beer in Total Wine in Sacramento, CA (it is also available on the Rouge Brewery website). I was actually surprised when I tried this beer. Once I opened the beer I was expecting a spicy smell but instead I received a sweet and smokey smell. When I had my first sip I was expecting the heat upfront however, it was a very smooth and sweet start with a bubbly and slightly spicy after tone. The spice would only linger for a little bit and then I was ready for the next drink. I shared the bottle with a few of my friends and I’m very glad that I was lucky enough to find it.
This is NOT gluten free and never will be. Try some Green’s Gluten Free Beer if you feel the desire to have beer! It’s the only gluten free beer Katie will recommend.
